THE MULTIPLY Titans got off to a good CSA T20 start, by beating the BizhubHighveld Lions by 42 runs on their home ground at the Wanderers Stadium.
The Lions won the toss and elected to bowl.
The Titans got off to a rocky start, losing the key wickets of Henry Davids (8) and Grant Mokoena (4) in the second over.
Heino Kuhn (83 n.o.), Albie Morkel (30) and Farhaan Behardien (37) stabilised the Titans’s score, ending their innings on 194/4. Back from a break in local cricket; captain Albie Morkel was on fire, taking 4 wickets for 12 runs. A couple of missed catches off the bat of danger man Rassie van Dussen provided for a couple of nervous moments. Van Dussen punished the Titans’s bowlers by hitting several sixes. A Morkel got the breakthrough and dismissed Van Dussen on 51 runs.
The Lions got an early upset, losing opening batsman Reeza Hendricks to a torn intercostal muscle. The Lions just couldn’t settle in; as they lost key wickets to the relentless bowling of the Titans.
Lungi Ngidi was on his way to a hat trick, but it didn’t go his way. The Lion’s right arm fast bowler Hardus Viljoen had a good innings with both bat and ball; taking 2 wickets and scoring 41 runs off 31 balls. With few wickets in hand the match slipped away from the Lions earning the Titans a bonus point.
Kuhn was announced batsman of the match and Albie Morkel the bowler of the match.
It’s early days in the CSA T20 series and there is still a couple of matches ahead. will the Multiply Titans retain their trophy?
