It was action all the way in the CSA T20 match between the Buildnat Cobras and Multiply Titans.
The Cobras won the toss and opted to bat.
Tight bowling and good fielding by the Multiply Titans restricted the Buildnat Cobras to 140/6. The Cobras couldn’t build enough of a partnership to achieve a comfortable score.
An early upset for the Cobras was the dismissal of opener Richard Levi off the bowling of David Wiese. CeboTshiki (47) and Jason Smith (38) began to stabilise the Cobras’s scoreboard when Lungi Ngidi put an end to their aspirations. Junior Dala took up where Ngidi left off and claimed the prize wickets of Justin Ontong (5) and George Linde (2). Malusi Siboto had a good overall bowling spell, but an untidy last over saw the Cobras hit several runs off this over extending the goal posts.
The Multiply Titans had a rocky start with Dane Patterson bowling a Yorker taking Henry Davids out for a duck. Soon to follow was Heino Kuhn (11) bowled and caught by Rory Kleinveldt. A great way to achieve his 100th wicket in a T20 match.
It looked from the fall of wickets and slow scoring; that the match was going the Cobras’s way. Consistent batting and patience brought new opening batsman and Titans wicket-keeper 46 runs, before being run out by Keegan Petersen and Ontong. The Titans needed runs with five overs to spare.
The words of that “no team chasing a score of 140 runs at the Paarl Oval could ever win”; was barely cold when Titans’s skipper Albie Morkel and Farhaan Behardien let loose to take the Titans to a six wicket victory and, with an over to spare.
Dropping the ball off the batting of Morkel saw the match slip away from the Cobras.
This result keeps the Titans top of the log.
