Solitary Tree On Zambezi

i am life
by Erika Southey
i am stuck in this maze of humanity
a scene playing out in their pathway of life
a changing face among these beings
observing their actions and steps
leading to some unknown place
sometimes i am a confidante of shed tears
sometimes a carving block for fun
just a message board:
for loved ones remembered
and loved ones lost.
do they even consider my importance,
how they need me in their midst?
i am a source of the air they breathe,
an intricate part of their life,
a tree.
Nature’s Pen
by Erika Southey
where mankind stops to speak
where mankind fails to cry out
against disasters
rocking our world
where tears are shed
where pain runs amok
where the poor fought;
a battle lost
rising from the mountains
rising from the seas
rising from all areas
affecting humanity
taking up the ‘pen’
to write in every way
nature warns us
of what is yet to come

Slumbering Society – Heartless Thief
by Erika Southey
the days grew darker
the waters rose
society kept going;
a luxurious life they chose
science and the weather echoed
several messages to warn
while poor countries got flooded;
as others became disease torn
yet merrily they followed
their idol’s swift pace
as nature cried and begged;
pointing to their acts of disgrace
the music stopped – tears remained
they found themselves gasp in dismay
for climate change attacked
and took their pseudo existence away
